Chinese Traditional and Simplified Characters
In this project, my direct intention was to highlight the characters we have lost / removed in the process of going from traditional to simplified Chinese, and how those characters are actually conveying the most important meaning we should cherish in our culture.

Close (as in relationship)
A conceptual jewellery piece highlighting (through LED lights) the missing part of the traditional character “close”, which is “meeting each other”. I chose to re-introduce it and emphasize it through closeness in body contact.
Love
In this asset, the focus is on the missing part of “love”, which is the very idea of “heart”. In the concept of the photo, I thought of the hand covering the empty spot where we should have a “loving heart”.
Saint
For this piece, the missing character parts are “ear” and “mouth” traditionally symbolizing the prophet who hears and speaks out the divine messages. I conveyed this unacceptable omission through the jewellery design and the make up the concept.
Honest
During the design process, the most difficult challenge I had to overcome was connecting the LED battery throughout the whole body of the artifact, the design had to incorporate a fine cable and a zirconia cut to actually make the light work.
Another challenge was to hide this intricate structure and make sure it didn’t affect the aesthetics of the piece. I solved it by encasing this delicate mechanism in a smooth copper coating and ensured I didn’t sacrifice wearability for the sake of a complicated mechanic.
Created in 3-D software - Rhino
In this project, I worked on the jewellery design of these silver-plated copper pieces (in Rhino) and on the photographic concepts (from make-up to portrait).
